There are few records in
football which seem genuinely untouchable, however Alan Shearer's goals
scored in the Premier League era will take some beating.
Shearer
bagged 260 goals for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United, and for
years has stood, threatened by no-one, at the top of the scoring chart.
However, Harry Kane may well be the man to take Shearer's mantle, having reached a century of Premier League strikes in double quick time.
Kane's
last gasp penalty for Tottenham against Liverpool on Sunday was his
100th goal in the English league - he becomes the 27th member of the
'100 club'.
Most impressive about this is how fast the England striker has achieved this milestone, bagging his century in a mere 141 Spurs games.
Only one man has reached the number faster, in only 124 games - no prizes for guessing that Shearer also holds that distinction.
The
breakdown of Kane's century reveals his style of play - although
capable of striking from any distance, most of his goals have come from
penalty box poaching.
Thus far, 88 of Kane's goals have been scored inside the penalty area, with just 12 being netted from 18 yards or more.
Shearer unsurprisingly holds the record for goals from in the box - 227 - while former Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard scored 41 goals from range, the most of anyone on the list.
He
has scored 60 with his favoured right foot, but also 26 on his left and
14 via his head, proving just what an all-round attacking talent the
24-year-old is.
That Kane was not an immediate success after coming through the Spurs academy, spending multiple spells out on loan and being used as a squad player before finally bursting into the first team, shows how even more remarkably quickly he has hit 100.
Injury or a move abroad look like being the only things that could scupper Kane, as he looks to reach and break yet more Premier League goal records.
Of
the 27 players to have scored a Premier League century, only four are
still playing in the English top division - Manchester City forward
Sergio Aguero is on 139 goals, while Wayne Rooney, at Everton, has 208,
and Stoke City target man Peter Crouch can boast 106 top flight strikes.
Aguero was formerly the second fastest to 100, taking only 147 matches to hit triple figures, but has now been edged down to third by Kane.
Kane and Aguero will be targeting a place in the top 10 scorers since 1992, with 146 goals, scored by one-time Spurs hit-man Teddy Sheringham, the benchmark.
Reaching
150 goals would equal Michael Owen's top flight record, while only two
players have scored 200 in the modern day top flight - Rooney, who
managed it last season with a Manchester United free kick at Stoke, and
Shearer.
None of them can claim to be king of the Premier League headers however - that honour belongs to Sportsmail columnist Crouch, who has scored 52 off his bonce in a long career with Aston Villa, Portsmouth, Tottenham, Liverpool and Stoke.
While many scorers can boast 100 goals with their right foot, only one has a century with their left boot - Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, who netted 105 out of his 163 goals in that manner.
