According to Punch, the herdsmen were trying to carry out a reprisal attack when they were resisted by the angry mob.
Sources say calm has been restored in the area, following the visit of the Chairman of the local council and the police area commander.
A security source who also spoke to Punch said:
“We don’t know if any casualty was recorded during Monday’s incident but there was a heavy exchange of gunfire between herdsmen and community members over a failed attack on Umunor community. Our men have been drafted there to keep the peace.”
